Museum of Vojvodina has two branches, Castle in Celarevo, which has exhibition of furniture and objects of applied art, from Baroque to neoclassicism and Ethno-house "Brvnara" in Backi Jarak, which represents the typical Dinaric type of house, with the original furniture, industrial tools and objects of national creativity.Museum of Vojvodina is located in the former courthouse. It was built in 1900. In classicism style by architect Gyula Wagner. The museum is the largest and most important in Vojvodina. Permanent exhibition is set in the area of 3000 square meters, consists of about 4,000 exhibits, and has three topics: archeology, history and ethnology. www.muzejvojvodine.org.rs
Novi Sad City Museum, and the Department of Cultural History Museum has a permanent exhibition of fine and applied art in the building called Topovnjaca on the upper plateau of the Petrovaradin Fortress. Exhibited items are only one part of the museum fund and are linked to the personalities and events of the history of Novi Sad, from the mid 18th until the mid-20th century. Collection of the foreign Arts is located in a house built in 1903. The building and museum exhibits are the legacy of Novi Sad doctor Branko Ilic. The permanent exhibition consists of paintings of Western artist of the Renaissance to the 20th century. The most important part of the exhibit is the portrait of Rembrandt’s father and Rubenson’s Seneca. The images are stored in the atmosphere of antique furniture and other objects of applied arts of 18 to 20 century, mostly Austrian, German and French production.
Gallery of Matica srpska was established in 1847 , and is open to the public 1957. The Gallery is one of the oldest in the country and is rich in works of art created in Vojvodina, from 16 century until today. In addition to the most zoographical works of painting and baroque, there are works from the period of classicism, and bouquets, romantic and realism, the collection of woodcuts and engravings from the 17th and 18 century, and lithographs from the 19th century. www.maticasrpska.org.rs
The collection consists of paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and copies of wall paintings, a total of 7000 items important for the Serbian history of art. It is particularly attractive collection of wall paintings from the monastic churches in Vojvodina. The permanent exhibition includes about 800 most representative exhibits.
Building in which Gallery of Matica srpska is located now, was built in 1927 for a “Productive marketplace”. Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski opened in 1961. The project for the building was done by Ivan Krutović and is considered the top part of the architectural environment of the twentieth century, whose facade was decorated in the marble and glass. Items that are exhibited there are a gift of Pavle Beljanski, a lawyer and diplomat, who was collecting those items for forty years and in 1967 gave them all as a gift to Vojvodina. The collection includes works of Serbian art between the wars and is considered one of the best in the country with the art works of local authors in the field of painting and sculpture. Gift Collection of Rajko Mamuzić is a gallery with works of art of domestic academic artists, painters, graphic artists and sculptors from the second half of the 20th century. The gallery is open in 1974 and it is a gift to the city of Novi Sad from a collector Rajko Mamumzić. The fund is a collection of 600 works of art, paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and tapestry, of which only part is exposed in the old setup, which is located in a villa built in 1925. www.galerijamamuzic.org.rs
The Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad was founded in 1861 and it is the first theater in the languages of the South Slavic people. Over time, the theater has changed its name and a stage where performances are held. Today, modern building of the Serbian National Theatre is located in the surroundings of the old center of Novi Sad. Construction was completed in the year 1981, during 120th season.
